The San Juan Islands provide an amazing location for a study of light, water, color and
reflection. This year's three-day Basic Watercolor Technique class is taught by Jennifer Bowman, an award winning international artist who has been exhibiting and competing professionally for the past 16 years. Her work can be found in both private and corporate collections locally to international collections including France and the Netherlands. The varied and vivid scenic backgrounds of the many boat paintings enhanced Jennifer’s ability to portray nature’s moods. She teaches in her hometown of Anacortes, Washington, gateway to the San Juan Islands, where she divides her time between that, keeping up with her nine-year-old son and occasionally going sailing with her husband.
The San Juan Islands are a beautiful platform to learn from and in 3 very full days you will learn about creating beautiful northwest Skies, painting distant hills and islands and techniques for foreground beaches and trees. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced painter, this class is a great introudction or continuation to watercoloring.
Visit www.jenniferbowman.com to see more of Jennifer's work.
In addition, there will be time for raising sail, a little sailing, and a great overnight spent at a secluded anchorage, and some great food. If you aren't a painter, and just want to come along for some summer sailing - welcome aboard!
The Schooner Zodiac has lots of deck space for sitting and painting and an awning that covers a
large part of the deck (in case of inclement weather) so all the classes can be above or
below decks. The rigging and gear of the vessel as
well as the beautiful surroundings will provide plenty of inspiration for the class.
There may also be time for a shore excursion for further watercolor painting ideas.
