Join us for a fun filled sailing adventure aboard the historic Schooner Zodiac as we circumnavigate the remote Lighthouses of the San Juan Islands. Shore parties will visit selected light stations with knowledgeable tour leaders.
Join the crew of the Schooner Zodiac for slow-paced, magic days in the American San Juan Islands, seeking wind to fill the sails and quiet coves to drop anchor each night.
Learn how sailors coming in from the sea relied on light houses to determine position at night or in fog and stormy weather. Before the advent of Radar and GPS, position was determined by matching information on the charts with lights at specified positions with identifying gongs and horns.
Answer the ancient call of wind and water, and the ringing commands from the quarterdeck: 'sailing stations', 'all hands on deck', and belay that line'. By crews, each sailor learns to work the sailing station assigned, and stands a two hour watch rotating from charts to helm, bow watch and messenger on the quarterdeck.
The cruise always ends too soon, about the time the halyards and sheets begin to make sense and the rolling deck seems like home.
